I bought one and its impossible. I have no clue how to do this. I thought it would be somewhat easy but have done nothing but cut myself. How do you go about doin this?

The only time I've had it done was at an old school barber shop for an interview. I wouldn't try it on my own if you don't have a steady hand.

why the hell would you do that?

if you don't have a heavy beard you can get a sufficiently close shave with a variety of blades. if you do, then it will be extremely difficult for you use a straight razor anyway.

in colombia i go get a straight shave every couple of days, it's awesome, 3 bucks for a shave and a shapeup. i only trust someone else with experience and a steady hand though.

I went to a local barber shop and got a shave with a straight razor. It was AWFUL. It was about as smooth as my normal 2 o'clock shadow and they cut me several times. Really, really, really, bad shave. Never again.

I'm currently switching over to an electric from using a regular blade all my adult life. It's not as close a shave as a blade but I like not having to worry about cutting myself.

If you've never used one, I wouldn't recommend it. Still got the sales receipt?...Take the damn thing back.

What's up everyone. I picked it up so I could shape my goatee. Aka "the Derek Fisher". I doubt he does his himself but I tried to shape it with a normal standard razor and it wasn't happening.

Gilette Fusion has a trimmer on the reverse side for edging that works great for beards, goatees and sideburns. I have VERY thick hair so this should work for you along some hair clippers.

I use the gillette fusion for general shaving and the Norelco G370 for shaping and trimming. I much prefer the G370 for trimming rather than the blade on the back of the fusion.

On a side note, I've started shaving my head and I bought a headblade, it is awesome.

Here is the G370

yeah i use the back end of the fusion now, it took me a while to figure out the trimmer was even there.

to switch up the length of my beard i just use regular wahl clippers with a 1 or 2 guard depending how heavy i want it, use the back of the fusion to get the corners and bends (mostly goatee and sometimes evening sideburns).

tabe i'd say you had a crappy barber, when i have gotten straight shaves i've always been pleased with the results. normally i'll have to shave twice in a day so it's refreshing to have a nice, clean shave that lasts a couple days for a change now and then.

I will only go to a barber that has the straight edge razor for my line up...but they have to go through training to learn how to use that thing and even have to be licensed in some states to use it I believe.

I would love to get a shape up every week, and it would be sweet to be able to do it yourself, but it's pretty risky.

I carry one around as a weapon. I don't ever need to use it, though. It's like a lightsaber. You see a guy pull one out and you just assume he knows how to use it. At that point, you just back down.

Haha maybe ill just carry mine as a weapon too. I appreciate these opinions here. The hardest place to shape is obviously the upper lip area. I will check into the two razors you guys mentioned above. You definetly have to learn how to use one of these things. I couldn't even get it to work on the side of my face! It is very dangerous, the woman told me when I bought it to watch out

Wth a straight edge razor you should pull the skin so its nice and tight. When u hold the razor u should hold it at an angle hard to explain youtube it
